Pat Conway, AIA, CSI, Director of Market Development & Technical Services at the International Masonry Institute of the North Central Region

Mr. Conway, a registered architect in Wisconsin, is Co-Director of IMI’s National Masonry Technical Team, IMI’s Director of Architectural Education, member of ASTM E-06 Committee, faculty member of IMI’s Contractor College and provider of Craftworker upgrade courses. In addition to his daily activities working with clients to use masonry successfully, Mr. Conway is a frequent national presenter, university lecturer and author on numerous masonry subjects including: Masonry Wall System Selection, Sustainable Masonry, High Performing Masonry Walls, Masonry Design and Installation Best Practices, Structural Masonry for Non-Engineers, Air Barrier for Masonry Walls, Masonry Rain Screen Walls, Masonry Restoration, Masonry Movement Joints, Masonry Job Site Troubleshooting, Contemporary Masonry Walls and Adhered Masonry Veneer.


Mark Kemp, CEO of Superior Masonry Builders, Inc

Mark has been in the construction business since the late 1960's. He started as a yard employee and worked for Superior during his college years. In 1973, he started a brick washing company called Badger Brickwashers, cleaning brick for various mason contractors. This gave him practical business knowledge while attending UWM and majoring in Business Administration. He graduated from UWM in 1975, with a Business Degree and proceeded to work for Superior Masonry as Secretary-Treasure. While running the office, he soon took over running the concrete division and then the masonry division. In 1982, he took over full control of Superior Masonry Builders, becoming President and acting as CEO.

Stephen J. Kuhnen, AIA, Planning & Design Architect of Bray Architects

The professional experience of Mr. Kuhnen includes over 30 years in the practice of architecture, site planning, space planning and master planning. He has been involved in the design of a wide variety of project types from multi-million dollar public complexes to small-scale renovations. This breadth of experience is brought to each project and allows for creative solutions to each client's specialized needs.

Mr. Kuhnen believes that each project is unique and should respond to the specific requirements of the owner, user, site, community and culture of an area rather than to a specific style or trend. With his multi-disciplined design and management back-ground, Mr. Kuhnen is able to integrate the design of site, exterior and interior to create a unified design concept that relates to its surrounding environment and upholds its functional use.

His design and planning approach is interactive, dependent upon significant client/user input and feedback. He recognizes that effective, innovative solutions arise as a result of dynamic interaction between client, user group and architect.


Jim Meyers, Masonry Division, J.H. Findorff & Son, Inc

Mr. Meyers leads the Masonry Division at J.H. Findorff & Son – an award-winning construction firm based in Madison, Wisconsin. During his 25-year tenure with the company, Jim has worked on many notable building projects including Overture Center for the Arts, Monona Terrace, and American Family Children’s Hospital.  With more than 38 years of industry experience, Jim often serves as a guest speaker for various special events and outreach education initiatives. Mr. Meyers also sits on the International Masonry Institute's State Board of Directors, is a Board Member of the Madison College Apprentice Program and is Past President of the Madison Masons Association and a past member of the Southwest Technical Advisory Board.


Andy Virnich, Branch Manager, Safway Services, LLC

Prior to joining Safway Services LLC in 2008, Andy spent 23 years in the building products manufacturing industry. He worked for USG Corporation for seven years and then became involved in concrete and masonry-related businesses. He spent four years in Florida running several concrete roof tile manufacturing operations and then moved to Minnesota to work for Aggregate Industries. He oversaw five block plants in the state, producing standard and high-end architectural masonry units as well as the full range of concrete landscaping products. He later joined Oldcastle as Vice President of Operations for the Midwest Region. His experience with the wide array of market preferences across seven states has brought about a deep appreciation of the beauty and varied design possibilities of masonry construction.

Andy earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering at UW – Platteville and an MBA at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis. He currently holds a PE license in the state of Wisconsin. He is a WMA Board Member and continues to follow architectural trends and enjoy innovative building designs.
